Superdrug has launched a new prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test service through its high street health clinics, in a bid to encourage more men to check their prostate.
Despite prostate cancer being the most common cancer amongst men in the UK, many remain hesitant to see their GP for a digital rectal examination, say Superdrug. (DRE). The PSA blood test service may pick up a fast-growing cancer at an early stage, where treatment is more likely to be effective.
The test works by measuring the amount of (PSA in the blood, taken via a quick blood test.
Niamh McMillan, Superdrug’s pharmacy superintendent, said: “By introducing the PSA blood test service across our 80 high street health clinics, we hope more men will feel encouraged and comfortable to prioritise their health and get themselves checked.”
The test will cost £79 and can be booked online.
